chud started as one student's own tool. It grew into a general assistant because the thing we were handed didn't respect how people work, or how they learn.

Make serious thinking tools available to the people who can't buy them.
That is the mission, stated plainly. Everything below is how we intend to get there.
The best tools for thinking clearly went to whoever could already afford them. We are building the opposite: an assistant that explains its reasoning, shows its work, and costs what a student can actually pay.

Depth over demos
Anyone can ship a chat box. We write the curriculum, the citations and the explanations by hand, because the part that actually teaches is the part nobody automates.

One assistant, every lane
Writing, planning, code, research and study in one place, sharing the same memory. Switching tools mid-thought is the tax we set out to remove.

Trust is the product
Sources shown, uncertainty stated, unfinished work published as unfinished. We would rather be believed on the tenth answer than impressive on the first.
We started chud because the tools we were handed talked down to us, gatekept the good features, and happily did the homework for us instead of helping us learn. So we built the opposite: an assistant that explains its reasoning, shows its sources, admits the limits of what it knows, and is just as useful for a cover letter or a broken function as it is for a unit test.

Made by sparkk
Education isn't our marketing angle.
chud. is built by sparkk, a student-founded business. It is not a charity and doesn't pretend to be one. But 10% of its profit goes to the Sparkk Initiative, a separate student-run 501(c)(3) that teaches free STEAM classes at public libraries, with chapters across Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, taught by student teachers.
Last term one branch ran seven consecutive Saturday classes (AI one week, practical tech the next), and the range runs from biology to crochet, because STEAM means all of it. That is where the 10% above goes.
Every dollar in and out is public: the initiative's books are open through its fiscal sponsor, The Hack Foundation.
The honest proof
Built by a student who used it to score 5s on AP Seminar and AP World, a 4 in Calc, and a 3 in Physics.
No invented stats. No user counts. No "reviewed by educators." Just a tool its builder needed, that worked, and one score that didn't go the way he wanted, left in because taking it out would make the other three worth less.
What we believe
Accessible by default
Powerful tools shouldn't sit behind a paywall nobody can afford. Free to start, student pricing above it, and no feature held hostage to make the free tier feel bad.
Honest about AI
chud cites its sources and says when it isn't sure. We'd rather be trusted than impressive, which means publishing the courses that aren't finished alongside the ones that are.
Made by the people using it
Student-founded. We build the thing we wanted and couldn't find, and we use it on our own deadlines before anyone else has to.
